Choosing a braai to compliment your covered patio

If you are considering installing an All Seasons Louvre Awning on your patio you might also want to consider what type of braai would suit you and your space. The choice depends on the space you have available, the ventilation and airflow, and the kind of cooking experience you want. You have several different braai options to consider to complement a covered patio. We would not recommend placing your braai directly under your louvre awning, however, you can explore chimneys or creating a safe space just off your patio for your braai.  Here are some ideas of the types of braai you could consider:

A good old Weber – A charcoal braai

Weber has become a household name in South Africa and the round silhouette graces many a patio, verandah and garden. These portable charcoal braais offer a traditional and much-loved cooking method with the added benefit of being cost effective. Portability can be a major benefit as you can store your Weber under your patio awning to protect it from rain and dust when not in use, and quickly wheel it into the open when you are ready to braai. You can also move your braai depending on the time of day and the direction of the wind to ensure no one gets smoked out.

Quick and easy gas braais

There is no substitute for the smell of wors cooking on a charcoal braai – but sometimes eating at 10 pm just won’t do. Enter the gas braai! Modern gas braais are available in all sorts of shapes and sizes. There are countertop gas braai options if space is at a premium. Braai Culture stock a wide range of Gas and other braais if you are unsure of all the options out there. Gas braais offer the benefit of quick and reliable cooking. A consistent cooking temperature can be maintained for extended periods, making it easy to prepare large quantities of meat for big gatherings with minimal effort. Having a gas braai can mean the difference between a stressful “What’s for dinner during loadshedding” into a relaxed, firelit evening on the patio.

When planning your adjustable awning you can keep a section of your patio uncovered to create a safe braai-zone. This area may include easy access to a covered prep surface (and the fridge) as well as plenty of space for socialising.
