Keep stock organised during high traffic periods

It may seem obvious, but it is a really good idea to use shelving to keep your stock organised. This goes for the retail floor, storeroom and warehouse (if you have one). Shelving keeps things off the floor and helps you to make full use of the height of your space.

Now, it is not merely as simple as popping stock on the shelves. It is very important to have a system in place before you even start putting stock on the shelves. Think about and plan a system that works for your unique store and stock. Here are some general tips:

• Put the heavy stock items on the bottom shelves.
• Label your stock and the shelving clearly so that you can quickly put the stock exactly where it needs to be. If your stock is on the floor then bold signage is key.

• Keep your storeroom floor, shelves and storage containers clean and check stock as you go. • Have a step ladder close by so that you can easily access all the stock on all the shelves.
